Driving tests in South Dublin are taken at three Department of Transport Test
Centres: -
and since October 2006 others will take place at various temporary centres to
facilitate the outsourcing of 40,000 tests.
The temporary test centres are at Deansgrange, Dun Laoghaire, City West and Fonthill.
Details of the test centres I cover are given below
Braemor Road, Churchtown, Dublin 14
This centre is upstairs above the Churchtown stores. The entrance door is between the
Banklink machine and the Churchtown stores.
Cars can usually be parked in the public car park opposite McGowan's Pub.
However, PLEASE NOTE that this car park has recently been made into a 'Pay &
Display' Car park.
It will cost you a small amount to legally park your car here before your test.
[But if you do not pay and put a ticket on your windscreen, you MAY come out
with your tester and find your car clamped - NOT a nice thought, and how
embarrassing will that be?]
Rathgar
Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin 6
This centre uses part of the large 'Marianella' complex on the Orwell Road.
The entrance gate is near the Orwell Lodge
Hotel (now being re-built/re-furbished).
Six car parking spaces are designated
for people on test, three at either side of the steps up into the waiting room.
Reverse park in one of these bays before your test, if these are occupied park
as near to the entrance as possible but avoiding the 'RESERVED' bays.
Please note: Churchtown Test Centre and Rathgar Test Centre are very near to each other, and are considered to be the same centre for administration purposes. If you applied for Churchtown on you application form you could be sent to Rathgar, and if you applied for Rathgar you could be sent to Churchtown, so please make sure that you attend at the correct centre.
Deansgrange
This temporary centre is based in the NCT testing centre in Deansgrange and is operated by the sgs group
Deansgrange commenced driving tests on Tuesday 31st. October 2006. Usually 4 examiners operate at this venue
Tip: If going to left when coming out of the industrial complex be careful not to go too near the gate as you will clip the kerb. It is a VERY sharp left. Also do not be too hesitant coming out onto the main road. It is usually busy, lots of yellow box junctions which no one obeys, and you need to push out to get out.
